Strengthen your Todoist account password

Are you trying to log in to Todoist, but you’re running into an error message about your password being exposed in a data breach, or not passing our security checks?

When logging in to your Todoist account, or when changing your password, your email address and password are checked against the Have I Been Pwned (HIBP) database. This service tracks all publicly disclosed data breaches. If your email and password combination is found in these breaches, it’s considered insecure and the error message will appear when trying to log in to the account. Here’s how to strengthen your Todoist account password and protect your data:

Note

You can check if your credentials have been compromised using either the HIBP: Email or HIBP: Pwned Passwords databases. If your email or password is found in one of these data breaches, an error message will appear in Todoist when you log in, reset your password, or sign up for an account.

Choose a strong password

When choosing the new password, we recommend the following best practices:

  • Use a strong password of at least eight characters.
  • Use a good mix of letters, numbers, and special characters.
  • Check the HIBP database if the password is secure.
  • Save your new password in a password manager, so you always have access to your account.

Most password managers include a password generator that can create strong passwords for you. After selecting your password, the password manager will automatically save the password, so you can get on with your day!
